week3

This week we learned about conjunction, disjunction, negation, and truth table.
The concept of conjunction and disjunction wasn't that difficult since it is all about 'and' which is equal to meaning of intersection and 'or' which refer to union.
However negation was challenged to me. By doing the first assignment and tutorial exercises i was keep confused how do i negate the sentences and how do i transfer from english word to symbol.
I was trying to ask in tutorial section but it seems to be other students are understanding very clearly except me so i couldn't ask.
Maybe i should spend more time to work on this and go to office hour and ask about negation.

week 1 and week2

There are several things I have learned this week in class. Firstly, I learned that it is difficult to find the universial/existential quantifer. What I learned is that in order to falsify a universal claim, you only need to find one counter-example, but to falsify an existential claim, you need to show that there are absolutely no examples. Similarly, to justify a universal claim, you need to show that there are no counter-examples, while to justify an existential claim, you need to show that there is at least one example. Also using the venn diagrams, it became much easier and more interesting to learn. This made me more confident in terms of thinking logically.
